I"m not carrying women's problems on my shoulders. I just feel strongly about rape (which so happens to be a crime often against women) and so I believe rape equals murder and therefore should be sanctioned by the capital punishment, death. I'm not being harsh, trust me.If you think I am then try living the life -or what is left of it -of a rape victim. All over the world rape is an under reported crime for the obvious reasons. It is the canal knowledge of a female of 16 years or above without her consent.(Domestic Violence Act) After rape, a woman may live with physical scars in some cases temporarily. Like my first documentary Killer Roads, I get deep into the dark lives of 2 strong women and share with you their untold, compelling stories –shared by many who are suffering quietly behind closed doors. The agony, the pain and the shame they bear. Tears of despair shed over a future into an abyss, battle with a hope merely by virtue of life. Wielding control over another may stem from inability to communicate properly, lack of respect, insecurities and wrong or misconstrued elements of our culture. In fact it’s a tall list. Nobody deserves to be abused and nobody has a right to hit or distress another. The law doesn’t allow it, you shouldn’t it either!!!
Did you know World thinking day was observed across the world yesterday? Well of course, not everyone would know about it but that doesn’t downplay its significance. This day is especially celebrated annually on February 22 by all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. So for a developing nation like Ghana what does this day mean to us? I sampled some interesting views from the streets. While some opined that as Ghanaians we were thinking others disagreed. The former group speaks out about the problem being implementation and not the lack of creative ideas from critical thinking. For the latter we cannot be thinking if we are plighted as a nation with the most fundamental problems. They argue we are still struggling with our basic needs. It’s amazing what kids can do. Due to my job as a journalist I found myself at the national spelling bee yesterday and I was astounded by the performance of the young spellers. Despite the brilliance of their cuteness on stage, they emit confidence, focus and intelligence but it's with a sense of naivety you cannot wrap your fingers around. Kids do the darndest things. No doubt about that. Look, the spellers yesterday were tasked with words which some adults cheering in the audience admitted was alien to them. I even tried my hands at a few, and trust me…it was no easy chore. Here are a few of the words from the spelling bee , ergatogyne, icosahedrons, eutaxy, quonk, ichorous and it goes on. Yet these kids metamorphosed into creatures of their wildest imaginations and impressed everybody with the utmost possibility of being able to do anything they can think of in this world. Kids are indeed the best God given gifts. I am always happy to see those little curious beings inquire mor...
Killer roads is my first ever documentary that i produced as a broadcast journalist working at Joyfm (an Accra based radio station). So what's the feeling? i don't know...mixed feelings? After the hustle and bustle beside relief, what else? one thing i know is that i am proud of it, after all Killer Roads is my achievement and i'm thankful to god for it. Of course there are those who couldn’t be bothered about what they wear or how they look, yet they have style even if it’s no style at all.
